The suspect, 55-year-old Desmond John Moses, set his Inglewood house on fire early Saturday before doing the same to his neighbors’ before the shooting started, cops said.
With his face covered by a painter’s mask, he shot 33-year-old Filimon Lamas multiple times as he bravely tried to shield his kids from the gunfire, KTLA-TV reported.
He also blasted Gloria Jiminez, 28, the couple’s 4-year-old son, and two of their other children, a 6-year-old boy and 7-year-old girl, according to police. Another child, age 8, wasn’t hurt in the shooting.
Lamas and his young son both died later. Jiminez and the two wounded kids were in critical but stable condition.

Inglewood emergency personnel respond to the scene where a man wearing a painter’s mask set a duplex on fire and then shot five members of a family on Saturday, Oct. 20, in Inglewood, Calif. A father and his 4-year-old son were killed and a woman and two other young children were wounded, authorities said.
Inside the charred remains of Moses’ house, officers found a body that hasn’t yet been identified.
They had to use heavy construction to dig through the home because Moses was a hoarder who packed nearly every inch with belongings, according to KTLA.
Moses is still at large and considered armed and dangerous, cops said.
Homes around the scene of the deadly shooting spree were temporarily evacuated Saturday as officers fruitlessly searched for him.
